New Zealand is home to an estimated 30 to 35 million possums, which collectively consume around 17,000 tonnes of native vegetation every night, causing devastating damage to the country's unique plants and wildlife. Originally from Australia, possums were introduced to New Zealand by humans and, with no natural predators, their population has grown unchecked — threatening even our beloved national icon, the Kiwi.
